The Principal in Residence - Middle School is a transformative leader responsible for helping launch and lead JRLA’s future middle school as part of the academy’s long-term expansion vision. This founding leadership role will work closely with the Superintendent to develop the academic, cultural, operational, and community-facing systems necessary to build a high-performing middle school that prepares scholars for success at JRLA and beyond.

The Principal in Residence will guide and develop a high-performing faculty, set the strategic vision for student achievement, and implement the school’s mission through effective leadership and management of all stakeholders, including faculty, staff, scholars, families, and the community. The Principal in Residence will also support family and scholar recruitment efforts to help establish a strong founding middle school community rooted in JRLA’s core values and mission.

The Instructional Coach will also work to foster a school culture that promotes the retention of highly effective teachers through daily monitoring, modeling, and support of guided reading instruction during tier 2 instructional time. They will lead data-driven conversations within Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), utilizing benchmark and WFA data to enhance instructional practices.

Essential Job Tasks:

• Leading, managing, supporting and developing high-caliber teachers on campus through consistent coaching and professional development.
• Review and analyze gradebooks to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with grading policies and procedures.
• Verify compliance with schoolwide policies and procedures by accurately documenting, reviewing, and reporting accountability-related tasks.
• Conduct classroom observations and teacher evaluations to assess instructional effectiveness, student engagement, and adherence to curriculum and institutional standards.
• Provide leadership and administrative oversight as the department chairperson for the respective department, ensuring the effective implementation of academic programs, faculty support, and departmental operations.

Jalen Rose Leadership Academy (JRLA) is seeking a passionate and dedicated Adjunct AP Teacher to provide high-quality instruction for designated Advanced Placement courses. This year-long, part-time position involves teaching for 90 minutes daily, fostering a challenging and supportive learning environment that prepares scholars to excel on the AP exam and beyond.

• Deliver engaging, rigorous, and standards-aligned instruction for the assigned AP course.

Essential Job Tasks: 

• Oversee and manage the school’s multifunction school activity bus use of, state of Michigan compliance requirements, and  safety protocols.

• Manage food services, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, quality standards, and meeting the needs of students and staff.

• Supervise safety operations within the school, including ensuring safety drills are conducted, and maintaining emergency response plans in compliance with the state of Michigan and JRLA requirements.

• Coordinate and oversee auxiliary services, such as student health services, and the maintenance of non-facility-related school equipment and resources. (Copiers, Other Technology. etc.)

• Support the school leadership team in managing logistics for school events, ensuring all operational needs (ex. transportation, catering, security) are arranged.

• Develop and monitor budgets related to operations.

• Liaise with external vendors, service providers, and contractors to manage contracts and ensure services are provided in accordance with agreements.

• Ensure compliance with JRLA, the state of Michigan, and federal regulations in all operational areas, including but not limited to food service, safety, transportation policies, and safety standards.

• Track and report operational data, for all functional areas, to provide insights to the leadership team.

• Implement systems to streamline operations, improve efficiency, and reduce costs while maintaining quality services.

• Assist in the development of staff schedules, including coordinating staff assignments and extracurricular activities.

• Serve as a key point of contact for staff and families on operational matters, addressing concerns or issues promptly.

• Assess students’ behavioral needs through observation, interviews, and data collection to identify patterns and triggers of challenging behavior.

• Develop and implement individualized Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) based on the assessment of student needs, incorporating positive reinforcement and behavior modification strategies.

• Work one-on-one with students to implement behavior interventions, monitoring progress and adjusting strategies as needed.

• Provide training and support to teachers and staff on effective classroom management techniques, positive behavior reinforcement, and strategies to prevent challenging behaviors.

• Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to ensure consistent implementation of behavior interventions across environments (classroom, home, and school).

The Postsecondary Success Coordinator is a member of the JRLA Postsecondary Team. This position builds relationships with JRLA graduates to support their pursuit of higher education specifically at a 4yr university or college. Efforts are generally focused on academic, social, emotional, and financial success to support student enrollment and persistence through to graduation. The use of discretion and independent judgment helps drive results. These efforts manifest themselves through data management, regular communication with alumni, visits to college campuses, college partnerships, and alumni events. This position also requires the coordinator to maintain college and scholarship partnerships to ensure strategic goals are met.

Essential Job Tasks: 

• Develop engaging lesson plans that support diverse learning needs.

• Organize and facilitate college/university orientation sessions, course registration, and the development of individualized long-term graduation plans while monitoring academic performance (GPA, credits, SAP) and supporting transfer and re-enrollment processes.

• Assist alumni, families, and students with financial aid adjustments, verification processes, scholarship counseling, and troubleshooting any financial challenges.

• Provide emotional and social support by visiting college campuses, coordinating meetings with key administrators, connecting students with campus resources, and supporting college application and senior transition initiatives.

• Maintain regular outreach and communication with alumni via various channels, logging interactions and updating tracking systems for enrollment, graduation, and persistence, as well as sharing job and scholarship opportunities.

• Collect, manage, and analyze data—including college enrollment status, academic performance metrics, FAFSA completions, and survey feedback—to drive curriculum updates and enhance alumni support initiatives.

• Oversee scholarship management in collaboration with the board by allocating funds, facilitating selection processes, coordinating thank-you letter collections, and maintaining communication with partner institutions.

• Plan and execute key events, such as scholarship breakfasts, alumni panels, send-off celebrations, and FAFSA renewal workshops.
